I think some Christians are "afraid" of new atheism. But, as I said in my post on New Atheism, there are plenty of sound responses, answers, and counter-arguments because, well, there's really nothing new about new atheism--it's nothing more than old questions re-hashed by more aggressive and offensive individuals.
Do check out the following titles for equipping yourself and others:
Berlinski, David, The Devil’s Delusion
Flew, Anthony, There is a God
Geisler & Turek, I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist
Jinn, Bo, Illogical Atheism and Utopia: the Secular Delusion (both Amazon Kindle versions)
Lennox, John, Gunning for God: A Critique of the New Atheism
Turek, Frank, Stealing from God
Zacharias, Ravi, The End of Reason
Berlinski's book is a direct response to Richard Dawkins' God Delusion. Zacharias' books is a direct response to Sam Harris' Letter to a Christian Nation. And, you really can't go wrong with John Lennox's stuff--but, do read his books with the King's English accent in mind. :)
Flew's book is his own testimony on how he turned from atheism to theism. So, this is less of criticism on atheism and more of why theism is now more convincing than ever.
Bo Jinn's work is powerful, on the offense, and un-apologetically critical of atheism. It's only available through Amazon's Kindle.
BTW, you'll notice that there are a lot of related Kindle titles out there. My suggestion is to carefully read reviews and excerpts before making your purchase.
All in all, once you see the holes in the atheist argument--holes that have always existed--you can confidently articulate the Christian position as well as convincingly point out the gaps in their reason/evidence.
